Biography

Dr. Nilesh R. Chodankar received his B.S. (2011), M.S. (2013), and Ph.D. (2016) in Materials Science from Shivaji University, India. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in Energy and Materials Engineering at Dongguk University, South Korea, and is currently a Research Scientist in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr. Chodankar’s research focuses on the design and synthesis of advanced functional materials and the development of innovative devices for electrochemical energy storage and conversion. His work emphasizes next-generation aqueous energy storage systems, including Zn-ion, Al-ion, and non-metal ion batteries, as well as supercapacitors and electrocatalysts for water splitting. His research aims to deliver high-performance, cost-effective alternatives that can compete with existing commercial technologies for real-world applications. In addition, he is actively engaged in the development of biocompatible materials for safe, implantable energy storage systems, supporting the advancement of next-generation implantable electronic medical devices. Dr. Chodankar has co-authored more than 125 peer-reviewed journal articles, holds five national and international patents, and has contributed several book chapters. He has also edited two academic textbooks in his field. His research impact is reflected in over 10,000 citations, with an h-index of 54 and an i10-index of 115 (Google Scholar). He serves as an Associate Editor for prestigious journals, including Journal of Energy Storage and Carbon Letters, where he handles manuscripts related to 2D materials and their applications in advanced energy storage technologies. He has been consistently recognized among the Stanford University Top 2% of Scientists worldwide for the past four years. According to Research.com rankings, he is currently ranked 13th in Materials Science in the UAE and 2nd in the Rising Star category in the field.
